About Brew:
BREW is a frame company that specializes in high quality hand-crafted frames and high end components. BREW was started by Steve Garn in 1988 and is located in Creston, North Carolina (which is approximately 25 miles NW of Boone, NC ). Steve "The Brewmeister" lives with his wife Kim and their three children. Our new shop, which is located on our 27-acre farm in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, has an elevation of 3,330 feet, with the mountain behind us at 5,728 feet. What a perfect location to give our mountain and road frames a strenuous workout.
Being a smaller company means that we have the ability to try different materials, geometries, and welding methods faster since we don’t have to wait on twenty engineers to agree whose idea is best. We order the newest materials, build a frame and give it to one of our test riders to give it numerous workouts. By using this method it puts the frame in real world circumstances and not one an engineer decides a computer should try to simulate. We decided to use the real world since our frames are ridden there instead of on some computer’s memory. A real test rider can tell you how a frame feels in different circumstances and can give us real feedback. Which way do you think is the better method for your next frame?
Alignment on ALL of our frames is very important to us, going through 14 different checks along our framebuilding process. We also argon purge our frames which aids in the welding process which gives us a stronger weld. The tubes are perfectly mitered so that all the welds are small and perfect. This small weld and argon purging means much less heat is applied to the tubing which in turn means a more lively frame with greater life. Every person that works on your frame loves bikes, knows bikes and rides bikes! Who else would you trust for your next frame?
Steve Garn "The Brewmeister"BREW has built Road frames for such road teams as American Airlines, Minolta and many more. We valued their feedback on different tubing and geometries and use this information to decide what is best for you.
BREW has built Triathlon bikes for such pros as Rob Mackle, Wes Hobson, Colleen Cannon, Joan & Joy Hansen, and the lists goes on and on.
BREW has built Track frames for years for 2-Time Olympian Carl Sundquist. From our sponsorships BREW has learned what does and doesn’t work first hand and not by some manufacturer’s claims. It has worked for the above, it will work for you also.
All of our Road, Time Trial, Triathlon, Track, and Cyclo-Cross Frames are available in a custom only. Forks ARE included since all geometry is custom and the fork is designed for your frameset. We will be glad to design a frame for your particular needs. Remember, Customs are our specialty, NOT a side-line!
Why Custom?
Some time back, Steve noticed that with the increasing popularity of specialized cycling events such as Criteriums, Road, Mountain, Time Trial, Cyclo-Cross, Triathlon, Touring, Track, Dual Slalom, Trials, and Downhill the demands of cyclists were changing but the bikes were not. Standard manufactured frames have standard tube lengths, standard sizes, and standard angles. That's fine if you're, well, STANDARD! (and don't mind hauling around 1-3 extra pounds).
A Simple Idea
Build tailor-made frames to fit riders who require their machines to be light, stiff, responsive and race worthy.
Full Custom Framesets
We will work with you on your choice of: Head Angle, Seat Angle, Bottom Bracket Height, Chainstay Length, Top Tube Length, Seatstay Design, Various Tubing Thicknesses and Diameters, Seat Extension Height, Sloping Top Tube, Head Tube Height, Fork Design, Shifter Placement and various Braze-Ons.
The Tubing
Steve chooses the tubing to match the size of the frame, weight of the rider, rider style (spinner or pounder) and for the type of riding the frame will encounter. By choosing the tubes individually keeps the weight down, the frame stiff and very durable. NEW FOR 1999 COLUMBUS AND REYNOLDS ARE AVAILABLE!
Custom Paint
Custom Colors, Pearls, Fades, Sponges, Splatters, Two-Tone, Classics, our very own Two-Tone Cracked Paint schemes, and MUCH MORE!
Custom Means Custom
Long top tubes, short top tubes, ovalized tubes, sloping top tubes, 68-84 degree seat angles, 69-76 degree head angles, and much more! We will be glad to build your tailor made frame. If you want something more classic or just plain crazy, letís get started building your dream machine. Remember, Customs are our specialty, NOT a side-line! From 16" kid's bikes to 75 cm. (30") sizes, there is no problem here in getting a frame in your size. If you weigh 70 lbs. or 300 lbs., we design a frame with tubing just right for you.
180 & 200 Proof Mountain Frames
This will be BREW Frame's fourth year in sponsorship of our own mountainbike team. This way we get direct feedback on all our own prototypes before we use the tubing or design in our Mountain Frames. We are always trying the latest tubing from various manufacturers, and, in some instances-actually helping them with their prototyping. Constantly trying different tubing diameters, butting, and wall thicknesses, BREW is always trying to stay on the cutting edge. The 180 Proof Frame is designed for the hard-core cyclist who demands stiffness and lightweight with a frame that will last several seasons. The 200 Proof Frame with these same features with lighter weight. We do more ovalization, use lighter tubing and remove all unnecessary weight where we can, resulting in a lightning-fast frame with very little weight while still keeping the stiffness.
The 200 Proof Frame is now built from Reynolds 853 which will last several seasons. Both the 180 and 200 Proof frames are designed for front suspension. BREW has designed their frames to give you the confidence to let you excel in all riding conditions. The result: more fun, longer rides. All this, while you blast by on your BREW Frame. The 180 and 200 Proof frames are available in stock and full customs so that you have no excuse that a BREW doesn't fit perfectly.
S and S Couplings
"The S and S Coupling is a finely machined and engineered coupling device. It is the only way to fly! Since the coupling is stainless steel it also makes it great to take along on your boat."
