Poulsen Cycles
Builder Profile

About Poulsen:

Hello, I'm Jeff Poulsen. Since 1991 I have been designing and building custom bicycle frames. I started in the bicycle world as a racer (which I still am) and have worked on bicycles for years in various bike shops. From there I gravitated to framebuilding.

My approach to framebuilding is fairly traditional as I use only steel tubing and designs that have stood the test of time. Technology in the field of steel tubing has come a long way and steel frames compare very favorably to the many newer high-tech materials on the market.

I use mostly fillet-brazed construction as many find this aesthetically superior and I feel it is the most durable way of joining tubing. Fillet brazing also allows maximum flexibility in frame geometry and material selection. However, I use lugged construction for some lighter weight, thinner-walled, tubing when the lower heat of silver brazing is more desirable. I do not TIG weld frames.

The following frames are currently available for custom design and building: road racing and touring, mountain with or without front suspension, road or mountain tandems, cyclocross, and track. I am currently riding and testing a new time trial frame featuring a steepish seat tube and airfoil shaped tubing. So far I am pleased with the results. Any of these frames can be built with the S and S Bicycle Torque Coupling System. I also repair frames and may be able to retrofit your frame with the BTC System. Here are a few examples of what I charge for custom built frames as of June 1996:

Road

Columbus Max.....$1150--lugged or fillet-brazed, Max fork

Ritchey Logic.....$900--lugged or fillet-brazed, Silhouette fork

*note: Other forks are available. I can build a custom fork or use a fork you already own. Other tubesets are also available, too numerous to list. I often customize tubesets by using individual tubes from different sets or manufacturers.

Mountain

Prestige OS.....$850--fillet brazed, no fork

Ritchey Logic.....$850--fillet-brazed, no fork

Tandem (MTB or road)

Options are many, prices start at around $1400.

All frames are completely custom designed and built to fit your body and the type of riding you do. Prices include your choice of hundreds of DuPont Imron or PPG colors, clearcoated to shine and last. Special finishes are available, inquire on pricing. Many other tubesets are available; again, inquire. Also, numerous MTB forks are available, including most suspension models, and can be painted to match your frame. I also sell complete bicycles. Component options are almost limitless, so please inquire.

I personally design and build my frames from start to finish. If you are looking for a frame that is hand built with attention to detail and finish, a Poulsen is that frame.
